Business Administration Assistant (BAA)

The Business Administration Assistant Program at BCA is designed to offer the widest range of possible career choices and opportunities in business. Graduates of this program are trained to maximize value for any business department. You will be trained to work on various business departments such as accounting, payroll, operations, human resources, and general administration. Instructors in our business programs are experienced professionals who will provide focused, relevant training tailored to the best practices of their respective industries.

Hands-on Healthcare Training

The Business Administrative Assistant program gives you industry-focused, relevant training to help you excel in various administrative environments.

The final stages of the BAA program are a practicum placement, totaling 160 hours over four weeks. The placement is to expose the student to a working environment where theory is put into practice, and to ensure that you will be job-ready and prepared to move into your new career working within a business office environment.

Administrative assistants may perform most of the following duties:

    • Prepare, input, edit and proofread correspondence, invoices, presentations, brochures, publications, reports and related material from machine dictation and handwritten copy
    • Open and distribute incoming regular and electronic mail and other material and co-ordinate the flow of information internally and with other departments and organizations
    • Schedule and confirm appointments and meetings of employer
    • Order office supplies and maintain inventory
    • Answer telephone and electronic enquiries and relay telephone calls and messages
    • Set up and maintain manual and computerized information filing systems
    • Determine and establish office procedures
    • Greet visitors, ascertain nature of business and direct visitors to employer or appropriate person
    • Record and prepare minutes of meetings
    • Arrange travel schedules and make reservations
    • May compile data, statistics and other information to support research activities
    • May supervise and train office staff in procedures and in use of current software
    • May organize conferences.
